Hello, I'm Lesley Childs and i'm from the Fife Carer's Centre a small local charity supporting unpaid and family carers throughout all of Fife.

Carers are people who, without payment, provide help and support to a relative, friend or neighbour, who can't manage life without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, disability or dependency.

The kind of help we provide starts with us giving carers information relevant to them and then helping them make use of it. We work with carers, looking at the problems they're experiencing, as well as thinking about the future and trying to plan to avoid crisis. For example, we help carers to find out if they or the person they care for have an entitlement to claim welfare benefits and we then help them to apply for them.

Some of the other services we offer to all carers include one to one conversations with carer support workers about any aspect of your caring role, carers groups, information in the form of newsletters, website, facebook and workshops.

We run free to attend workshops for carers every month throughout the year for people who are caring for someone living with dementia; helping them to understand more about the effects of dementia and how to find ways to live alongside it.

It's very easy to contact Fife Carers Centre and make a referral. Call us on 01592 205472 or complete the online referral form you'll find on our website. Once we have the referral, a carer support worker will make contact with the carer to arrange an appointment to meet. The appointment will allow the issues the carer faces to be discussed and a way forward to be identified.

The service is free and we cover all of Fife and the appointment can take place in Fife Carers Centre, the carer's own home or somewhere else that's mutually convenient.
